How is 3D printer TCO calculated?
Total cost of ownership (TCO) adds the initial purchase price to all recurring operating costs over the useful life: material consumption, annual maintenance and electricity consumption.
Annualized TCO divides the total cost by the years of useful life, making it easier to compare with other manufacturing alternatives (outsourcing, conventional machining, etc.). The cost per kg printed lets you compare different printer models on equal terms.
This calculation does not include indirect costs such as floor space, staff training, design software or post-processing, which you should add in a full analysis.
