EU ETS Emissions Calculator

Calculate the tonnes of CO2 emitted per year and the estimated cost in emission allowances based on your fossil fuel consumption.

How is it calculated?

The EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) requires industrial installations exceeding certain thermal capacity thresholds (typically >20 MW thermal) to acquire emission allowances equivalent to their tonnes of CO2 emitted.

  • CO2 emissions = Fuel consumption (tonnes) × Fuel emission factor
  • Allowance cost = CO2 emissions × Emission allowance price (€/tonne)

The emission factors used are typical indicative values (coal 2.42; natural gas 2.0; fuel oil 3.15 tonnes CO2/tonne fuel). If your installation exceeds 20 MW thermal input, you are likely subject to EU ETS obligations and must verify your emissions annually.
