CBAM Calculator for Importers

Calculate the tonnes of embedded CO2 and the estimated cost in CBAM certificates based on the product and quantity you import into the EU.

How is it calculated?

The CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) requires importers of certain carbon-intensive products to purchase certificates equivalent to the embedded emissions of those goods starting from the full phase (2026).

  • Embedded emissions = Imported quantity (tonnes) × Product emission factor
  • CBAM cost = Embedded emissions × CBAM certificate price (€/tonne CO2)

During the transitional phase (2023-2025) only quarterly reporting is required, with no direct economic cost. From January 1, 2026 the full phase begins with the obligation to purchase CBAM certificates.

See more details in our FAQ on when to declare under CBAM.
